About Melissa:

Melissa K. Knowles is “professionally tiny” and can often be found hiding in your locker or being thrown high into the air by pretty much anyone. She has toured across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia performing with Acrobatic Conundrum, C!RCA, Nimble Arts, Aerial Angels, Infinity Circus Productions, The Boston Circus Guild, and Wunderle’s Big Top Adventures. Before discovering circus, she received degrees in Art and Psychology from the University of Tennessee. In 2010 she completed the Professional Training Program at New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA) in Brattleboro, VT.

She spends most of her time performing, teaching circus, and making art at Equinox. Her favorite thing about teaching and performing circus is the way it empowers people to do things they always thought impossible, but had just never tried.

She also likes dark chocolate.

NEW CLASSES

Flex and Cool Down:

This class will focus on releasing all those tight muscles you have been using. Finding ways for the body to let go of tension is an important part of ending your training or your day. This is the perfect class after another class or after a long day of work. We will move through your functional range of motion at the joint level (which decreases inflammation!), do some light stretching mixed with massage and finish each class with a decompression and neck release.

Beg. / Int. Handstands – Level 2/3

This class is going to take the skills learned from beginning handstands and upgrade them. In this class there will be special attention to more advanced bail techniques. This will allow us to do more exploration with body shapes while in handstands. We will even take things up a noch by exploring some handstand cane work.

Prerequisites: Students should have basic foundation techniques in body awareness in handstand. Most importantly, students should be aware and comfortable in knowing how to safely bail from handstand when falling over.

Students must be 12 years old or older to participate!
