Spring Protege Show 2022 | Dreamers of Dreams

Spring protege auditions are coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 15 for a performance on April 23!

Have you dreamed of being a part of a circus show where your character is part of the whole story, and not just performing a single act? Join us this protege season in a show loosely inspired by Roald Dahl’s book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This protege show will include dance, group acrobatic work, and storytelling. Our fly team will portray the Oompa Loompas who keep things running smoothly at the factory. Each of our aerialists will be one of Willy Wonka’s gold ticket-winning guests at the factory. Also featuring Jessie Perry as Willy Wonka! Get ready to perform on April 23rd as we invite the audience to an evening in Willy Wonka’s world with a circus twist.

Sign-ups for protege auditions will be available at the front desk beginning January 25th.

Audition Information

Auditions will take place on Tuesday, Feb 15th for both aerialists and flyers. There will be an overlap during flyers’ and aerialists’ auditions where all protege candidates will learn and perform a group dance. Sign-ups for protege auditions will be available at the front desk beginning January 25th.

For Aerialists:

  • Auditions will take place from 6pm-8:20pm
  • Aerialists may arrive at 5:30 to warm up, and should expect to stay through 8:20pm so that they can participate in the dance portion of the audition
  • Prepare a 90 second solo on your apparatus that fits along with one of the characters from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

For Flyers:

  • Auditions will take place from 7:40pm-10pm.
  • Flyers may arrive early to warm up. Prepare to begin with dance auditions at 7:40pm
  • The flying trapeze portion of the audition will begin at 8:20pm.
  • To audition, flyers should be able to remount the board without safety lines and be working on a flyout; they should have returned one trick to the board more than once, and they should have caught two tricks out of safety lines. They should have a dismount that is close to being out of safety lines, if not out of safety lines already. In addition, all flyers should be comfortable working on the board, including having basic knowledge of bar dropping and assisting others as they remount on the board. Finally, flyers will need to be comfortable pushing out of their comfort zone.

Protege Practice Schedule

Rehearsals will take place between Feb. 21 and April 23. Because this show will include an ensemble, all performers will be required to attend both group dance/ensemble rehearsals and rehearsals on their apparatuses.

For Aerialists

  • Aerialists are encouraged to attend the act creation workshop, a five-week course that will begin the week after auditions. It will help participants create their act. Specific scheduling details to follow.
