Act Creation Workshop with Jenny Penny!
Let’s get your act together! Act creation can be daunting, but if you have an idea of what you want, that’s a start! We’re going to go through all steps to make your act look great. Costume, hair, makeup, character, and most importantly, musicality. We’re also going to get those pesky transitions nice and smooth. You need to know the moves you want in your act – they don’t need to be pretty, we’ll work that out! You’re encouraged to show up early and warm up extra!
6 Week Series – Fridays at 6pm on B side
2-2.5 hr classes – being flexible for weeks where we’re running acts or doing makeup.
Here’s the plan:
Each week we will:
Warm up and stretch
Practice moves within the act
Focus on transitions within the act
Create musicality with your moves
Push flexibility with partner stretching
In addition each week we will also work on a specific skill set.
August 5th, Week 1: Choosing music, intro/outro, floor work.
August 12th, Week 2: Costuming
I will pin your costumes and show how to do basic stitches and quick fixes. As well as how to be a rhinestone master. I’ll also answer questions about specific problems with your outfit or headpiece.
August 19th, Week 3: Makeup
I will provide eyeshadow/color etc. I will ask that students provide their own foundation, mascara, and lashes. Feel free to bring inspiration photos! I’ll also teach you how to care for your lashes and brushes. You can bring your own brushes if you want practice with your own tools. I’ll do half your face and you’ll do the other!
August 26th, Week 4: How to be a professional.
How to roll with the punches, what to expect and how to respond with performance etiquette.
How to set yourself up for success, including making your “ohshit kit”.
Check in on costumes.
Answer makeup questions after a week of experimentation.
September 2nd, Week 5: Hair and running the act
Extra focus on transitions and timing.
Running the act in costume, to music with intro and outro.
I help with hair, you do your makeup.
Peer reviews.
Assess costume issues.

September 9th, Week 6:
Full dress run.
*COME TO CLASS IN FACE AND HAIR
September 16th- no class. Time for private lessons and practice.
What to bring – notebook, recording device for your acts.
Have costume pieces (can be more than you’ll actually use).
Look at the class schedule as each week – you’ll have to bring different stuff!
$180 for 6 weeks ($30 per week – totally worth it!!) – 4 students min/max 8
After our session is done you’ll have a nice smooth act with a costume and look to match.
If there is more costuming work we’ll have an extra week to commission me to finish it.
